Penang Kuey Teow at Citrarasa

I was at Citrarasa 2009 on Sunday and came across this "demo" of frying Penang Kuey Teow!
The flame was huge and fierce and heated the wok up until very hot...
Cooking oil was introduced and instantly it caught fire...
Then kuey Teow was "thrown" into the flaming wok ... (By the way, do you see the "fire" on the forehead of the cook? This bit is a "break away" fire demonstrating the intensity of the flame!)
... fry and fry or rather stir and stir ...
Added in soy sauce and fry again...
... then a little oil was poured onto the side of the wok to purposely allow more "burning"-the orange flame was from the burning oil.
... see! The fire was inside the wok, and the burning oil was then mixed into the kuey teow ...
... steaming hot ... done...
The steaming hot kuey teow is then transferred to the polystyrene food container.
Served for RM5 per package.

After seeing the way it is fried, I will think twice when coming to eat kuey Teow fried in this manner. The super heated oil is no good for health. By purposely burning the cooking oil, it gave that "charcoal" taste. Burnt cooking oil and food is carcinogenic - ie, cancer causing.
The whole process takes five minutes.

Note: I am going to Kuching tomorrow (1-April-2009). Unless there is computer network, I will not be updating my blog. I am bringing my Ah Jon to Kuching for further investigatory medical. Please do pray that there is nothing wrong with him.

Miri "renovation" updates

The title of this blog sounds like Miri is being renovated. But in reality, Miri has gone through major changes over the last few years.
Old shops had been pulled down...
This is the latest "casualty" to "modernisation"... See that the shops are now "hollow".
Workers were hard at work plastering the walls...
... in order to look like this ...
Outside town, we have a mega mall being built just opposition Mosjaya shopping town.

Utterly irresponsible & reckless people

I was in Public Bank (next to KFC) yesterday using the ATM. While looking out of the glass window, I saw the following:
The cover to the manhole which is located in the middle of the road had been recklessly removed. The hole must be 1.5'x1' and it is extremely dangerous to motorbike. If a motorbike wheel ever go in, the rider would be serious hurt or killed.
Why should people remove such a cover? They are now almost worthless for the metal. I felt very upset whenever I saw irresponsible citizen doing such a thing.
I suppose this is a failure of the 11 years of moral studies which is compulsory for every student.

Taming the Tiger - Tony Anthony

Update (7-April-2014): Some irresponsible people have used my photo without permission on their website. If you see any photo from this blog entry appearing anywhere else, I just wanted to highlight that I have nothing to do with their postings.

Saturday 28-March 2009: Tonight, our whole family + Yee went to the evangelistic rally by Tony Anthony organised by SIB Miri.
Tony gave a touching testimony about himself and later explained about sin, repentant and salvation through Christ.
Senior pastor Solomon of SIB...
Andy led the youth team in praise and worship...
The youth obviously had a good time...
... and also listening to the talk by Tony.
Many people, especially the youth accepted Christ ...
... as their personal saviour...
And the counsellor prayed for all of them.
The youth of SIB came in bus loads. It is a real pity that our own Methodist youth are generally missing as they are busy with their own Saturday night fellowship.
Tony will be giving his last session tomorrow (Sunday) morning at 9:00, Eastwood Valley. You are all welcomed.

Ah Jon Wreck his car today

Our 28 years old Toyota GL "black Belt" driven by Ah Jon was involved in a self accident. Ah Jon was on his way back from Curtin University this morning at 9:40AM.
According to his word, he stepped on his brake and the next thing he remembered was the car in this position. Is it possible that one side of the brake has jammed up? He just sent the car for brake servicing last Saturday!
The driver's side door hit the coconut tree and this is the result.
He actually hit a banana tree on the left side of the car (see bumper) and this had helped to slowed down the car. Because of the side force, the car skidded and ended up hitting the coconut tree just next to it on the driver's side.

We sent him for X-Ray... this is the side view.
The is the front view.
So he ended up in hospital for observation. But the specialist clinic has WiFi and therefore he is not lonely!
Thanks God that everything works out fine. We are thankful that a banana tree was in the way which has helped to slow down the car.
For information, there is no wound on his body. He only complained about pain near the stomach. We went to see him at 5:30PM and he looked fine.

Just for a laugh

In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand.
He approached her and asked, ‘Mrs. Jones, do you know me?’.
She responded, ‘Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams.
I’ve known you since you were a boy, and frankly, you’ve been a big disappointment to me.
You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs.
You think you’re a big shot when you haven’t the brains to realize you’ll never amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.’
The lawyer was stunned.
Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, ‘Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?’
She again replied, ‘Why yes, I do.
I’ve known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too.
He’s lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem.
He can’t build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state.
Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.’
The defense attorney nearly died.
The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said,
‘If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I’ll send you both to the electric chair.’

NAILS IN THE FENCE

Author: Unknown but worth reading
There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.
The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all.
He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.
The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.
The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, 'You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. But It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Remember that friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.'

Awesome Miri Sunset

Miri people is blessed with beaches and beautiful sunset. For the last many days, we continue to witness the beautiful sky in the evening.
The sun had just gone down...
The children played in the water under the watchful eyes of the parents...
Adult also enjoyed themselves with kite.
To many, water is a blessing... and the sea is full of wonders ...
Early in the morning, the beach looks fresh with gentle breeze and waves hitting the shoreline ...
The sun just came up from the horizon ...
... but the fishermen who camped permanently in their temporary shelters by the beach were long gone...
... into the sea. May they be blessed with plenty but many are satisfied with just enough. May God watches over them daily and bring them back safely.

Ah Jon Collection of figurines

Ah Jon has been very busy taking in repair work, new order, re-configuration of computers for the last two months. I was wondering what he is going to do with the extra cash. Then, yesterday, I saw his new collection of what he called figurines. I must say that they are beautifully made, apparently hand made. He told me that they are work of art and he will not lose money when he resell. Perhaps, even make a profit! He sold away his last one for a profit! Anyway, here is his collection...
This one is quite large... beautifully made and coloured.

This one is little and cute ...
haha.. this one...
The hair is so long...
Definitely some Japanese cartoon figure. Don't ask me, I have not been watching cartoon for ages!

Working partime to make extra

The way the reporter wrote this report is disgusting. It sounds as if it is wrong to work part time to earn extra if you are a "top" student. Or does it mean that only if an academically poor student can work part time? See the word used here: "forced to help".
I have seen many students in Miri working in supermarket to earn extra. This should be encouraged because it is teaching the kid the value of money and also they will grow up to be more matured.
My three girls scored straight As in SPM and they also work part time. Even in the university, they still work part time. When I visited them 2 years back, Stephanie told me, "Daddy, I am buying you dinner because I earned this money myself!". When they went on holiday, they told us "We earned the trip ourselves". Isn't that great?! I felt so very proud of them.

Seven As student cut out to be a doc, not cut grass
GEORGE TOWN: Eighteen-year-old S. Somaraj may be a top student, having scored 7As and 3Bs in his recent SPM examination, but he is forced to help his father with his part-time job of cutting grass on weekends.
Somaraj, a Penang Free School student, hopes to become a doctor in a private hospital here, where his father, M. Sangkaran, 46, works as an ambulance driver.

For the last few days, we witnessed awesome sunset in Miri. We are so blessed with a beach where we can watch sunset and enjoy the beautiful sunset created by God!
16 March 2009 Lutong beach.
The children had a great time there.

18 March 2009 Lutong beach
After the sun was down... the awesome reflection of various colours can be seen.
Roaring wave.
Joshua and Timothy pestered me to go to the beach every evening. It is just 4KM away.
