Fancy this ...

My children and myself went to a vet last weekend. I asked the receptionist:
Me: How much it cost to sterile my bitch?
Receptionist: A cat or a dog?

Wah ... now I am not sure about this vet.
(Just in case, a bitch is a female canine/dog)

I was sharing with my friends the other day about the good old days, especially how male pigs and dogs were castrated! My father would prepare soot from the wok, a gunny sack and a sharp knife. My brothers and father would tie the legs of the animal, put them into the gunny sack, head first but with the backside facing outward. The "operation" would then quickly took place, apply soot and the yelling animal was free to go, minus the testis .... wah, no anesthetic... nothing. Cruel? But at that time, vet was unheard of. I suppose that was what they did to human also, especially those in the imperial court in China.
By the way, gunny sack is not required if we are dealing with small animal.
My Kayan colleague said that his father did the same but they use a sharpen bamboo to do the job. By the way, fully matured bamboo is very sharp if properly "sharpen".

I do not know where you went but I would recommend Angel Vet Clinic. May be a little far for you guys. But the doctors are very good. Phone number is 085 417 128. Dr Hii and another Dr Sharon. They are at the end of Jalan Tanjung Lobang at the Miri Bintulu road.

We went to the Vet Clinic in Pujut area. The process cost RM280! In the good old days, we did it ourselves! Any suggestion other than "operation"?

i e R: agree with you. Have you heard of the case in Miri where a dentist charge RM800 for extracting the wisdom tooth? Then my colleague was charged RM800 for cleaning his teeth. I can't really comment whether they are expensive or not but for self sponsored dentist/vet, they do cost a bomb!

William, I just had my male dog nuetered for RM180, that is reasonable. KL charges are as high and even higher in Europe. Females spaying does cost a little more but I would advice to get it done because it is generally healthier for the dog and increases life span and reduces risk of other diseases - so it is not just about getting pregnant.

yea, i know, my mum 'plant' 2 teeth cost 750 each, OMG... i got 2 tooth filling for 80 each...

last i hear, private dentist 'pluck teeth' need rm150, while GH is rm2 for registeration.

days of life has change. :/ are we changing to fit in? it isnt easy.

Nil: In that case, I think I better get it done. I was told that the fee is standard.

i e R: Implant of teeth is expensive! Could cost more then RM750. So do look after your teeth! Filling for RM80 is quite normal. My regular dentist normally gave me a little discount. Wah... "pluck teeth" cost RM150 now?!

WT: those 150 pluck teeth is at those high class dentist, they will provide good service like spray something(instead of injection to numb the gum), this that, and some med pill for infection, antibiotic and swollen gum etc,...

GH? it was fun experince during me following my grandpa to GH for his teeth removed, a group of patience sit in a row on the bench, then a nurse will come out with sringe, one by one give injection (to numb the gum, of coz, each patience with a new sringe), then dentist will come out pluck one by one, so cute, i will someday follow someone there again and take some photo, it's fun to see, very memorable(nostalgic) of the old days; (give u tips where ur next shooting title might be :P)

i e R: Those "soft touch" cost money!

GH... they really still do those things? LOL! Amazing! I don't know whether I got such opportunity to take those pictures. Maybe I should try. You are sure it is GH and not polyclinic opposite that Joe Motor?

ah sir friend: Dentistry is very difficult to enter. In UK, they reserve only 2 places in each uni to foreign student. I think there are less than 20 uni in UK offering dentistry! So, got money also no use - cannot enter lah!

The NHS craves more dentists so that we can afford to maintain our teeth! I paid £16 for my checkup and clean recently with NHS. My Mum has to go privately and paid £55!

Anyway, in the olden days when there was no anaesthetic, they used to get the patient drunk off whiskey, even punch them to knock them out, or they bite a towel - and then perform the amputation or operation etc.

Argh, cringeworthy!

FM Luder, I wonder whether you can go to a "teaching hospital" and get free dental service. Of course, there must be one such hospital nearby.

No anesthetic in the good old days... hahaha, I dare not imagine it! I prefer them to punch me unconscious. Perhaps, with the punch, the required tooth would have fallen out!
