Attitude of a winning school

When Datuk Dr Fong took over Riam Road Secondary School, there are only 200+ students. I was told that the students had little motivation to study. Also, when he took over Chung Hua Middle School many years ago, I was told that parents used to avoid that school. Now, both schools were well sought after by parents. I came to know Dr. Fong personally when my daughters went to study in Chung Hua.
I knew that his no nonsense discipline is definitely working well. His system of running the school has won him prizes at national level. So, who is this Dr. Fong?
Here he is... a man who walk around with a huge rottan in his hand. He reminded me of my ex principal of St. Anthony in Sarikei in the late 60s' and early 70s'. Dr Fong is a man who has foresight and strategy and also understand the needs of students and demand of parents. He is the CEO of the school.
Mr Liew, the principal. I have to admit that I don't know him well enough to say anything about him.
Miss Chan. I would say that she works very well with Dr. Fong and I think they compliment each other.
The school has many good teachers. Having been teaching all his life, Mr. Leong is full of experience.
School assembly ... now they have more than 1200 students, from a mere 200+ 4 years ago. Can you imagine a life band playing the national anthem...
The school canteen is like a food court. The students have many choices of food!
The school is also a place for the students to share their joy together.
The students helped out in all aspect of activities, eg, the bookstore. This has helped the school to cut cost. They are responsible to help in giving out book loan and sorting out workbooks for the students to buy. This is teaching the student to be responsible.
A room equipped with computers for the student to do research, if required.
A huge medal to remind the students to excel and win. I was amazed to see students practicing early in the morning on the track.
There is not a single piece of paper/waste material in the school compound! Simple... fine is RM50! They walk the talk. So, watch out!
The library is being put in place. So, if you have books to donate, please bring them to the school.
The school is also like a garden... with beautiful flowers ...
... and a real garden!

I agree with Janice. Looks like Dr Fong is running it the same way he did in Chung Hua...and brought it up to become one of the best in the state.

Janice, STP: You are absolutely right. That is his winning formula and he just duplicated it over here.

to say the least, I am simply impressed with the effective management, unlike some other principals in some other schools
