The Green Iguana Has Landed

I saw this green iguana about a month ago crossing the main road a kilometer from my home. Two weeks ago, my son saw it about 300 meters from our home running into the bush. Today....

... I saw it jumping from my neighbour fence onto our side. When it saw me, it "ran" (ok, crawl) up my huge mango tree and move all the way to the top (about 25 feet). While running to get my camera, I asked my sons to monitor the fellow...

... as you can see, it is in green colour and it is well camouflaged against the leaves.

... looking at the length of the iguana (about 5 feet), I think it is almost full grown. My other conclusion is that it was someone's pet and may worth a lot of money. But I prefer freedom for that fellow. This creature is found only in Central America and is not native of Sarawak!
Read more about it here.

flower, ya, I think it is at least 5 feet from head to tip of the tail. The tail is almost 1.5X the length of the body. It is indeed very fast. But once it went up the tree, it stayed there motionless!

Your eyes are very sharp! ^^
If i was the one on the spot, perhaps would miss out to seeing it as the color of the leaves are same as their body!

Looks like a chameleon or the Seven Step Lizard. If you are bitten by it according to Foochow legend it will give you some grass (ie. you need to brew the grass as your medicine) if it gave you a stick that was a sign of death. After walking seven steps you die!!!
Any way when we were kids were would not go any where near this chameleon.

check out the story. Nice pictures.

Sarawakiana, actually I checked out whether this is chameleon or "seven step lizard" and concluded that it has to be iguana. This is because of the size. Chameleon or "7-step lizard" are tiny (less than 6 inches) compare to this fellow which is like a monitor lizard.

I was told that baby iguana can be bought in KL pet shops for a couple of hundreds ringgit each.

That's pretty amazing! I love the colour of it... green is my favourite. I agree, freedom for him/her is best - it's his/her destiny.

Nice photography =]
