The most effective and humane way to kill is just put the cage with the rats under the sun. After 1-2 hours, the rat will dead.

Thank you William for deciding not to feed the cat. I think it is a wise choice to let live, release the poor fella who is just trying to survive in this world, we all have a right to live and try to survive.
