飯前香蕉 百病消!太厲害了! Eat banana b4 meal!
The New England Journal of Medicine" 的研究指出,長期吃香蕉,中風死亡的機會率大大降低 40%。

What are they actually selling??
I looked at the label and saw "Thai Style Rice" and without looking at the ingredients, I thought this is Thai Style vermicelli, ie, rice noodle.
They look like reasonably good. So I bought two packs home!I cooked it two days ago and found that it is tougher than I thought. It is definitely not made from rice. At one point, I thought it is the green pea noodle (东份). It is chewy. So I decided to check the ingredient...
... it is actually made in China and made from corn starch. Not rice at all! How upsetting.
Although honest (I hope) on the label, it includes Sodium polyacrylate which is a super absorbent polymers (sometimes taken to refer to plastic). Next is Sodium dihydrogen phosphate, which is supposed to be used as laxative.
The last item is Xanthan Gum which seems to be a very interesting. It is widely used as food additive.
Now, I am unsure ....
... can this thing be eaten?! No wonder it has such a foul chemical smell when I opened it.

Try this drink - 5 greens for health
I have been so busy lately that time flies without me realising it! Whatever, taking care of oneself is important. The saying goes "anything tasted good is not good for your body". I am not going to debate on this. But this drink (so called five (5) greens) I made for myself is definitely not going to taste good. Jonathan, my eldest son, described this as "a heavenly drink"! You know what he means!
I put green pepper, cucumber, bitter gourd, green apple and celery into my high speed blender and out it comes, a drink like above. This is the famous "five greens" health drink. It is supposed to lower your cholesterol and high blood pressure.
The trick to drink this juice is to blend it and without thinking, swallow everything down in one go! An ex-colleague told me that this drink help to put the cholesterol back in order! So, have you tried this and how was your result?
Recipe:
Half Green pepper
Half cucumber (3-4 inches)
Quarter bitter gourd (2 inches)
2 stalks of celery
One medium green apple
100-200ml water
Above should make about 500ml. If you cannot finish everything in one go, you can always share it with someone or use it twice.
Go and check your cholesterol and BP now and then drink this "heavenly drink" for a month. Check the results of your cholesterol and BP again.

Drug Free Hi Blood Pressure Control
As usual, I walked at the Bulatan Park and met up with my walking buddy. He is concerned with his rounded tummy where he can't seem to get it flatten. So, I recommended my earlier remedy by walking and elevating the heartbeat up! Then he went back and went through the internet. He found something interesting. Like squatting to elevate the heartbeat. Then he also said that one Chinese doctor has been massaging three pressure points, cycling and breathing.
Talking about breathing, it was found that it can also control high blood pressure. It was reason that the body automatically response to poor oxygen level in the blood by pumping out more blood. Simple logic is to increase the pressure... so there goes high blood pressure. Now, don't believe me, go to google and enter the key words "High Blood Pressure Breathing" and you will get load of information.
Here is my evidence:

Before I started my breathing, it was 135/90. After breathing exercise for one minute, it drop to the above!
This seems to work even if you are currently on drug. So, if you have HiBP, try it. If you have no HiBP, try it anyway because slow breathing is good for you.

How to remove visceral fat (Belly fat)
Visceral fat is fat that surrounds the internal organs. Some people call it "hidden fat." It most commonly collects around the mid-section, as this is where a majority or our major
internal organs are located. Most of this type of fat builds around the stomach area.
internal organs are located. Most of this type of fat builds around the stomach area.
Visceral fat is different from other types of fat that are closer to the skin. This type of fat is more dangerous, and can increase the risks of diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. It can also cause high cholesterol. Developing this type of fat creates a more serious health risk than other types of fat that are stored on other areas of the body.
I attended a talk by a doctor and he recommended walking.
To remove belly fat, you need to (obviously) exercise. AND you need to ensure that during exercise, your heartbeat reaches 60-70% of 220-your current age. For example, if you are now 50 years old. You need to ensure that your heartbeat is between (220-50)x0.6 to (220-50)x0.7. The heart beat works out to be 102 to 119. At this heartbeat, your body burn fat from your belly! So, when you exercise, measure your heartbeat! There is a heartbeat measuring gadget you could buy from the pharmacy or just count your pulse. To make life easy for you, below is a table showing the age and optimal heartbeat for a flat belly!

How to remove belly fat (Spare tyre)
The company organised a "Wellness program" for the employee last week and I attended a whole day session on how to reduce weight. At the end, we need to pledge a weight reduction of 10% each and will be awarded a prize after that. I need to get rid of the fat on my belly! So, I am going to share with you here today what the doctor said.

I had a Flu
Last week, I had a nasty flu. Went to see doctor just in case it was H1N1. Doctor said that there was no H1N1 in Miri and I felt better immediately! He checked my sore throat and prescribed me with a few drugs...
Perhaps, the best he did was to give me this 1gm per tablet vitamin C. This reminded me of my childhood days whereby we bought those sweet which can be dissolved in water.
Then he also gave me this to suck. It was quite effective.
Then this bottle for relieving my throat which I didn't take.
Now, the top one is Augmentin which is one of the most powerful antibiotics for my sore throat. I didn't take this. I am scare of antibiotic which will make me weak eventually. The bottom one, Clarinase, is a good flue drug. I took this and it seems to help a great deal.
Warning! This entry is not to teach you to diagnose and prescribe your own drug. If you are sick, go and see a doctor. Antibiotic should not be simply taken.

Life like that …
Yesterday, my friend in KL called up. She told me that her relative just passed away at 57! Just retired from the S’pore navy. He was very active, very strong and no sign of any illness.
Suddenly he complained of chest pain and was immediately rush to the hospital. While he was in the car, the pain reduced and then he suddenly pass out. He never woke up again. Post mortem reviewed that he had a massive thrombosis of the right heart, ie, a blocked artery of the right heart, or simply put it… a heart attack.
He was very conscious of his health, seldom ate outside food, cooked his own meals, played games, kept himself active. So, what had gone wrong?
Perhaps, it didn’t matter anymore… the living just need to be “ready” at all time.
Perhaps, we may look healthy but don’t forget to check the health of your heart. Heart attack is a major silence killer.

Medical Checkup
Medical checkup may be a nightmare or even brought fear to some people. This is the time where most of us would fear that something nasty is found!
Over the years, I realised that the normal checkup is almost quite useless because the doctor would ask you "Do you feel anything wrong?" or some other questions which are really "symptoms" related. In another word, if there is no symptom, you are ok. So, they will ask you to take x-ray, lie down and "knock knock here and there". Then they will declare you healthy.
My recent medical checkup change my perspective about medical checkup. Medical checkup is time for the doctor to find out or detect abnormality. But how?
Due to my age, I went for a treadmill. The doctor monitor the traces on the screen and also take my blood pressure. Before that, he will ask me a series of questions.
After the treadmill, he will analyze the traces and look for "clue" of potential problem. As my blood pressure behave in an interesting manner, eg, 130/80 in steady state and jump to 230 under stress. He suspect that I may be suffering from high blood pressure. So he scanned the wall of my heart to find whether one side of the muscle wall is thicker than the other. Ok, it is 1mm thicker on one side. So, the question is whether to take drug or not.
He also scanned my other organs and that was when something was found! Read my earlier post for answer. There is totally no symptom but the stone is there. Another doctor has since confirmed the "extras".
So, if you go for medical checkup, do a holistic one rather than "no symptom = no problem". You can never tell. Depending on individual, I think a treadmill is quite useful but this depends on whether the doctor knows how to interpret the result. Also get the vital organs scanned. I had a simple ultrasound scan.
In the last 30 days, I knew of two persons of my age literally drop dead. So, are you going for checkup? Don't go to "any" doctor but one who is prepared to spend time and do a good job for you. May the new year bring you good health.

Charcoal Bread, anyone?
Not long ago, I talked about charcoal moon cake. Now, it is charcoal bread!
Apparently it is good for health! I know that charcoal is good for detoxification and nothing else.
Anyway, it tasted ok, or rather, the same. The cost is RM3.60 each and I think it is not worth that much.
Oh, I wonder whether I will becomes darker or not if I eat too much of this.

Bulatan Park, Miri
Bulatan is a popular spot for all health freaks in Miri. I was told that there are already people jogging as early as 4:00AM. Each round is about 0.75KM. For us, we tried to walk after sending the children to school, ie, 6:45AM. In the evening, there are even more people jogging or walking in circle!
The local council maintained the park very well. It is clean and neat. Full mark for them!
Then every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, this group of praise dancers will be there doing "exercise" as according to the music. They start at 6:30AM and end at 7:30AM. I was the only man there! Somehow, men shy away but don't underestimate this ... it is worse than walking!
The serene atmosphere of the park is perfect for walking. When the sunset, another group of people will occupy all the benches to let the hearts talk.
The path is well protected from the strong ray of the sun.
Another perfect place for a family to show the care and love of nature!
There are thousand of these fish...
Of course, we meet familar faces and friends here! Mr KK Lau, my ex colleague.
Mr. Leo, a runner! He opens a makan store in the park. So, do visit him and buy something from him when you feel that your jaws need exercise. He is a friendly person, always smiling!
Mr. Ting SC is a regular. He is also my ex-colleague.
Of course, my other half. Without her, I will be sitting in front of the computer.

Premier Clinic
Columbia Asia Medical Centre has started a new clinic next to the main building. It is directly above Dr. Roland Mattu Clinic. It is opened to the public. So anyone can go there. They started their business at 7:00AM. I believe the majority of customers are from SSB. The afternoon is for appointment only.
The apple green colour is very pleasing to the eye. However, the flat panel TV on the wall needs tuning.
Two friendly staff are always there to serve you...
This is the entrance at the first floor. It gave you an immediate "clean" look

I have cough for a month
I got a flu and after two days of suffering, my flu was gone. But the cough stays until today.

Under pressure to see a doctor, I agreed. See what this doctor gave me...
Strepsils - for soothing my throat
Powerful antibiotic for "infection" (very expensive drug)
A regiment of treatment for asthma by using steroid.
Well... just in case I have those imaginary problems....
Initially, I don't dare to take any of these medicines but after a while, I thought that perhaps I really need the antibiotic. So I took it but the cough is still there! Now, I am definitely not brave enough to take anything else.
My problem is that the doctor never explained to me what he is going to give me. Why he think that I have asthma and what is the use of the antibiotic. Without these information, I have no confident to consume any of those poisons.
p/s: From my little understanding about antibiotic, this drug is very bad for health. If taken too much, one will get more and more sick!
Flu is caused by virus. Antibiotic is for treating inflammation, which is non-viral. Normally, antibiotic is of no use for flu unless there is serious secondary infection. But doctor here habitually prescribe antibiotic without any valid reason. So if you have been feeding your young children with antibiotic, think twice and ask whether it is really necessary. Challenge the doctor if necessary.
I had a bee sting and doctor in Sibu gave me antibiotic! To me this is a real joke!
But why is doctor so busy giving out excessive medicine even when it is not necessary? I believe, tell me that I am wrong, they are under "pressure" from drug companies to sell because of "commission" if they reach a certain target!

After months of talking and planning, Eric finally opened his first Organic food store. Everything is from his garden.

Today is his opening and we went down during lunch to visit him. He called in all his neighbours and friends to help out...

His special fruit juice.

His neighbour is helping out... see how happy are they!

Dehydrated fruit .... tasted wonderful!

Home grown pineapple

Fruit salad meal

Nice presentation... yesterday during their opening, this is given away free to all visitors.
By the way, the fruit salad meal varies according to the fruit season.

Pile post surgery management - my experience shared
I search the internet and found nothing on this topic. I asked my doctor yesterday and he told me that no patient would share their experience as they consider it too personal. However, I view this otherwise and would like to share my experience so that others will benefit.

This was what had been removed from me!
First, after this type of surgery, many people need sick leave for 7-30 days! For me, I didn't take a single day off! I thought this surgery was so simple that it shouldn't cause any problem. But this is partially true and partially false... depending on whether you know how to manage it.
Removing piles actually introduce open wound in the rectum and that faeces will rub on this open wound when you are using your ass hole daily. Actually this process itself did not cause much problem. But the aftermath may bring nightmare! The rectum will go into severe spasm (or pain) after roughly 2 hours. At that time, neither sit nor stand will relieve your pain. I felt like having a rock in my rectum. ok, fear not because my shared experience will relieve you of any pain.
Diet
1. Make sure that the diet consists of high fruit content. Pineapple is the best as this fruit contain anti-inflammatory property. Dragon fruit and papaya are also very good. Avoid guava and if you do take, you must not take the seed.
2. Avoid spicy stuff, eg, curry, chilli
3. Make sure that you drink at least 3 liters of water daily
4. Whatever you eat, eat slowly and bite well. You must never swallow bit and pieces of hard indigestible "food", eg, seed, bone. If you do swallow them, the rough bit will actually scratch the wound and cause much damage to you.
5. Drink plenty of fruit juice (about 500 cc/2 cups) rich in natural vitamin C. I took Dewland Orange Juice from South Africa. Vitamin C assists in healing.
The idea here is to ensure soft and smooth faeces and that you don't need to push when you are doing your business.
Shit business
1. Get up early in the morning and drink two cups of water
2. Go to the toilet when the urge demands it
3. Let the natural bowel movement takes it course rather than push
4. After you have finished, make sure that water (I prefer hot water) is used for cleaning instead of toilet paper
5. Sit and soak your ass in a basin of brine. I found that the western doctor suggested cold water. Chinese tradition always suggested warm water. I strongly recommend rather hot water (applicable for point 4 above) . Somehow, the hot water soothes the pain and helps healing. Later, I found that it was better not to sit inside a basin but use a small basin with the circumference just big enough to support your buttock, ie, not applying pressure on your ass. You sit on the basin touching the brine instead of sitting inside the basin.
Pain Management
Some two hours or less after your shit business, the rectum will go into a spasm and you will experience great pain. Don't panic! Just follow this instruction here... go to the toilet and sit down. You will find that the rectum will squeeze so hard and will excrete a little of the faeces out. I found that this little bit of faeces is the culprit in causing pain/spasm. Therefore, whenever the pain starts, could be every 2 hours or less in the morning, you just go to the toilet and let the body rid itself of all the waste.
The pain will disappear in minutes. Do this as often as required, ie, whenever there is pain. In my case, I usually need to relieve myself only once after the first instance. At most, I need 2 more times.
I was fully recovered in about 25 days. If I knew about the above, I think my recovery would be even faster. As a benchmark, my colleague stayed in hospital for 2 weeks and another 2 weeks of sick leave. A friend of mine had his surgery, spent over RM10K and was still in great pain after three months. He finally went to China to have a corrective surgery. He said that China has special preparation which the doctor would apply on the wound. There was no pain, and the wound dried up completely in 7 days! From a layman point of view, this means that the Chinese has better technology.
One last note, for those who are using toilet paper to clean up, I think it is high time to change to water for better hygiene especially if you have piles.
