More macro photos
The following was taken using my new Nikon 200mm lens...
I revisited this friend in the jungle once again... I found that his "toes" which are purple in colour are actually sticky! It makes sense because the stickiness must be able to hold on to the prey (or victim)!
Another very interesting tiny spider which doesn't look like spider at all.
This spider has the "horn" fully grown.

BTRR Photo Challenge Results
The Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort 2010 Photography Challenge came to a close last night. As expected, our friend Mr. Hii from Sibu bagged first price in both category. Without doubt, his photos were good. Altogether there were 320+ photos submitted for the competition. Here they are:
First prize entry of Facilities/Building/Food & Beverage - by Mr. Hii of Sibu
First prize entry of Landscape/Wildlife/Nature category by Mr Hii again. This picture is superb!
Second prize entry by Mr. Tong
Second prize entry by Mr. Tong again. This special effect photo is well done.
Mr. Hii (left) with our photo enthusiast from Tutong, Brunei. Finally, for third prize, my bug ...
... similar to this one won me third prize.
To conclude the evening, we were treated for a sumptuous dinner.
There were judges from KL, Kuching, Sibu, Miri. The job must be tough for them. Whatever were the outcome, I think a lot of entries deserve recognition!
p/s: The above was taken off the photos on display. So quality was not as good as there was a lot of reflected light.

Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort
Some more photos taken at Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort...
This morning glory is very special. I saw it outside the hotel room. Taken using my H3D on a normal lens and cropped.
A different angle of the hotel main block to show the greens surrounding the building.
One of the function rooms.

Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort
Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort is 39KM from Miri town. They have quite a lot of facilities, especially for team building, etc...
... Wet Postman walk. I have not seen anyone walking across the rope successfully...
... Main entrance to the resort hotel.
The top floor is private residence. 5th floor is for offices.Bottom 4 floors are for hotel guests.
One of the chalets
You don't need to stay there overnight in order to visit the place. You could just pop in early in the morning and pay RM75/person for a day trip. This includes meals, tea and tour. For children, it would be cheaper.

Snake on tree, Peacock, etc
There are many different animals in Borneo Rain Forest Resort.
... the peacock...
A snake sticking on a tree and upside down!
We met a group of students from Brunei. Welcome to Miri! All photos had been posted on my facebook. Click here.
Macro Photography ...
Ok, macro photography to me means that I have been taking more pictures of tiny creatures. So here they are:
This bug is barely 10mm in size.
A spider? Looks like a robot from another planet. But no, it is a spider because it spins web! It was tiny, perhaps also 10mm across. But very colourful.
This time, I manage to get a clear shot of this tiny dragon fly. The body is probably about 8mm.
Ok, this time I used a new 105mm lens from Nikon. It was one of those super fast and accurate lens using silence wave motor.

Graceful butterflies
I have never really tried shooting macro before and this has proven to be much harder than I thought. The wasted shot is about 80% and probably only 2% is of any quality which I think can be used for display!
Shoot something that move or when it was windy made the project even more challenging. I called butterfly "hyperactive" as they move really fast and very shy. They don't stay still for more than a few seconds. Anyway, enjoy this one... the beauty of nature.
I like this butterfly most... it could pretend that it was dead! I caught it and put on my hand. It was as if it was dead! It won't move at all.
Fearsome encounter ...
