Canada Hill in Miri is where the first oil well was drilled more than 100 years ago. At that time, the local found "black fluid" where they can use it for burning. The British came and realised that the black fluid was actually crude oil. To the amazement of the local, they found that the "explorer" drilled at the top of the hill whereby the local can just scoop it up from the low laying areas. Anyway, that is history. Today, at Canada hill, we only see a replica of the first "rig", a Petroleum Museum, a park and a couple of "hills" for locals to "climb" and sweat it out.
Aerial view of the hill.
This is the view of the Petroleum Museum and the rig (Grand Old Lady) behind.
From the top of the Canada Hill, the view is rather beautiful. You can see the whole of Miri + Lutong + the Asean Bridge to Brunei.
More views from the hill ... the dark blue building is Yu Lan Plaza
The block on the left is Imperial Mall... The sun is now going down...
Sunset ... from Canada Hill
... the sun is now gone but the radiant light continues to light up the sky ...
... and streak of rays can be seen beaming through space...
... and now Miri is being lit up ... that is Imperial Mall again. This was about 7:00PM.
The Grand Old Lady at 7:00PM.
Photos here were original without "photoshopping". However, the 2nd picture has been cropped.

Hahaha... I am planning to go for so long already but still haven't tried to trek. Maybe this Saturday?
Thanks for all the compliment.
By the way, all my photos are original. No retouch, no enhancement, etc. If I fiddle with it, I will say so.
Beautiful shots. Did you actually get on a chopper to get a shot of the bird's eye view of the Grand Old Lady or did you happen to be on a flight to elsewhere?
wahhh at first i thought you've 'touched' the photos and i was quite surprise to find out that it wasnt at all. great shots!! :)
Ian, I was on the flight to KL and I happen to have my camera on hand. That photo was taken with my older D200 with a 200mm lens.
LadyBird, thanks for the compliment. Ya, I seldom photoshop my photos. My policy is to shoot "perfect" shots and reduce post processing.
Hi William, you have a great blog. Very nice pictures. What camera are you using now?
Hi Philip, Thanks for your visit. I am now using a Nikon D3.
